FULL THROTTLE BLUE DEMON
Energy Drink Review By Cartoonist Jeff Swenson
If blue tastes like anything this is it, question is do you like the taste of blue? To me it's rather an odd taste that I'm not sure I could get used to.

Blue Demon

COMPANY: Coca Cola Beverage Co
CAN DESIGN:
The can is very blue, which I think is why it caught my eye so fast as being something new on the shelf. I'm tired of flames as an energy drink motif but Full Throttle is based on a Motorcyle/Auto theme so it is fitting. And the flames are simply done so not bad.
CAN DETAILS: 16 FL OZ, 220 Calories
PRICE: 2.29 at Albertsons. It seems energy drink prices aren't dropping like I would expect with increased competition. They've created a status similar to specialty coffee drinks. There are knockoffs that are cheaper but I think a major player would have to undercut the competition in order for the prices to drop.
WEBSITE: www.FullThrottleEnergy.com . I've reviewed the overall site in a previous Full Throttle Review but they don't seem to be plugging Blue Demon at all. I didn't even see a mention. It still amazes me how these companies don't get their act together when it comes to the web. This is Coca Cola for god's sakes. If you type in Full Throttle Blue Demon into Google you will not get a company site. Only sites that talk about Blue Demon. From a "buzz" angle that's good but I would at least expect a company site to pop up in the first 10 listings.
TASTE: The can boasts "Blue Agave Flavor." I've never heard of Agave before but it is funky. It's like if you took metal and a cactus plant and mixed them together. Fact is, it's similar to Hype Energy except that Hype is sweeter and has more of that metallic aftertaste than Blue Demon. But I will give credit to the marketing: when I taste Blue Demon I think of "blue."
I did look up Agave on Wikipedia and found a note about the juice from Agave Plants possibly causing dermatitis if it comes into contact with your skin--I don't think they'll boast that as one of the benefits.
It wouldn't matter anyways. There is no actual Agave in Blue Demon if you look at the ingredients. They boast "flavor" so all they did was simulate an Agave taste.
AFTERTASTE: The aftertaste is really when the metal and plant taste kicks in. I don't care much for it.
SUSTAINED EFFECTS: Nothing out of the ordinary. My skin did start to redden (just kidding).
OVERALL: No website presence, odd taste, good can design--it's hard to say. To me Blue Demon isn't a winner, but if they can find drinkers that like the taste then they'll sell their product. It's hard for me to dismiss the taste because energy drinks are all about weird and unusual tastes. My wife thinks they all taste horrible.
WOULD I BUY IT AGAIN? No. This is one of the rare Energy Drink Offerings that I can honestly say I don't like at all.

GENERAL COMMENTS: Maybe they'll find their audience with Blue Demon but with a poor web presence they sure aren't showing much confidence in this new energy drink.
