T-Shirt Hell Crooks, Office Games List, Richard Pryor, and Examiner Comics
By swenson | February 24, 2009
I haven’t done a site updates post in a couple of weeks because so much is going on. I’ve been working all kinds of new requests to do cartoons and am trying to keep up. But I want to update everyone on the blog on what to check out.
First of all — T-SHIRT HELL CROOKS! You have to understand that I had a fondness for this company, even though I didn’t agree with everything they did. They put out provacative T-shirts that tested free speech in some cases and tested the capacity for questionable humor. Now come to find out they just committed fraud under the guise of “marketing.”
I wrote two posts on this for my Pop Culture Blog. The first being the announcement that they were going out of business: http://popped-culture.today.com/2009/02/07/t-shirt-hell-out-business/
The second being that their “Going out of Business” announcement was a scam in which I went off on them: http://popped-culture.today.com/2009/02/07/t-shirt-hell-out-business/
And I mean SCAM! They lied to their customers to sell a record number of t-shirts. Any other company and I think people would be more upset, however, I think many of their customers are laughing it off because they don’t understand they’ve been spat on and used.
It’s not an excuse if a company is out to offend people and be outrageous and politically incorrect–you still have to retain ethical business practices as well as comply with legal issues. But as I say in my post, they have money and lawyers on their side because they’re not “underdog free speech fighters” anymore. They’re just liars getting rich off of people who don’t know any better at this piont.
I also decided to see if there were any other complaints about T-Shirt Hell. Kind of weak considering the “stunt” so maybe people are starting to find their antics tiring. Here’s what I found: Rip-Off Report Complaint ; Hacker News ; Reddit .
If you did buy a T-shirt as a result of this scam then have some balls and return your T-shirt. According to that one post they don’t honor returns, in which case I would complain to the Better Business Bureau. They would love for you to tell them to “fuck off” but when it comes to money that’s where it starts to hurt.
Okay, sorry for the rant! Fun stuff. Let’s start with games – Motocross. I was enjoying this flash game because of the jumps. It’s simple but a good time-killer. And for more time wasters while you’re at work go to the new listings for “Office Games.”
Black History Comedians Month – Swenson Funnies gives a nod to great Black Comedians. Richard Pryor is one of my favorites because he talks about every dark thing in his life–and makes you laugh about it. Here’s his bit on meeting The Mafia.
Then there’s Eddie Murphy when Eddie was funny and not the guy who has to cast himself in every role in his movies. Here he talks about a phone call he got from Bill Cosby.
COMICS, new stuff and news - I just signed on to be Examiner.com’s “Funnies Examiner.” What does that mean? Well, the goal is to post new and original updates on their news oriented site each week that parody the media. I’ll also be posting Sunday Funnies in color and a weekly political cartoon too. You can check out the first Media Mayhem parody of John Elton’s Oscar Party. And the first Sunday Funnies selection on how to make yourself cry.
We’ll see if I can start targeting some of the idiocy that goes on with celebs, politicians and TV/movies. As well as just celebrating “funnies” in general.
And if you didn’t already know I am doing a weekly political cartoon for Democracy.com. Here’s this week’s toon going after the poor celebs suffering from the recession. Posted regularly on the right side of the site.
And I did post the second strip for Mutant Energy, the only strip so far that I know of on Energy Drinks. Yes-s-s, I love energy drinks. They are my wonderful addiction. Hope my liver can handle it.
Lastly, V-day is way over but I don’t think I plugged Scott’s Babe selection for that week. Also there have been plenty of updates to Scott’s Babe Pages in the last month. It’s for the guys, get your hearts moving a little faster on your break.
